Chapters 1-5

December 9, 2008

Dear Diary,

Today was my first day of school, and I’ve already started off on the wrong foot. It’s not my fault though. Walter Cunningham was the reason that Miss Caroline and I aren’t on good terms. I told her several times he was a Cunningham, but she wouldn’t listen to me. I thought I was being nice; I was just trying to tell her that he wouldn’t accept the money. She didn’t understand.

When I got home I told Atticus what had happened because I was rude to Walter at dinner. Atticus told me I was wrong. He said “You never understand a person until you consider thngs from his point of view…until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”. Atticus said this to me, which helped me realize Miss Caroline just didn’t understand me because she was new and that none of it was Walters fault. This is how my day went. Horrible!

  1. Its not your fault that Ms Caroling did not see your point of view on the Walter Cunningham situation. Eventually she will see that you were right and Walter was wrong. Cheer up Scout, school will get better soon.
